Some quotes from supporters of the campaign:
If I may suggest, the point we must keep plugging about the runway extension is the fact that the N.W. extension of runway 15/33 was refused by the government inspectorate in 1966 on environmental grounds, not many people remember that and the Council would probably want to conceal this fact anyway.

What is the point of a public consultation over a chosen option, or am I missing something here. Surely the object of a public consultation is to consider all options and then take it from there. I can’t help feeling that a public consultation is just a cosmetic excercise that they are legally obliged to put out and decisions have already been made.

I am writing to protest about the proposed extension…having knowledge of how this extension really affects the lives of people caught beneath the canopy of pollution, noise and the extra traffic on ourovercrowded roads…we are not a new London and cannot take any more expansion of this type of development. We do not have the room!

Incidentally the item in the YA gives two phone numbers for obtaining a copy of the consultation document. The first (01702 215000) is Southend Council who, when we rang them, professed to know nothing about sending out copies of the “consultation” – what a farce! People therefore should be advised to ring the second number 01702 546366 – Rochford Council who are quite happy to send out copies to callers.

I would like to get on board your campaign – your website is very informative too! But I think it is a huge uphill battle. I wrote an email this morning to both Cllr Lamb and Waite urging my concerns of living under
the flight path and the real risk of night flights. I think it is a travesty to this town that the airport was practically handed over to a haulage firm without any public consultation. As you point out they try and get across the message of more jobs and convenience and bury the real issue of dirty noisy aircraft at all times of day and night. Nobody bar the council (a
vanity project) and Stobarts (profitable as will be cheaper to use versus London airports) actually want this expansion. And what about the real risk of bird hit as seen recently in NYC? It seems greed and profit go before risk and sanity of residents.Audrey Snee
