Impact of the Airport Extension on House Prices

Whenever people raise the question of house prices, the answer comes back from both Southend Council and the Airport “Oh, well houses are losing value at the moment anyway!”

However, we have learned that someone who has put their house on the market in Rochford recently was told by the estate agent that they would have to knock an extra £25,000 off the price of the house due to the current threat of airport expansion, and at this stage we don’t even know whether it will actually happen!

We have now heard of another case where an estate agent advised someone to make an offer £30,000 less than the asking price for a house in Rochford, giving the airport expansion as the reason. That house isn’t even on the flight path.

It could get a lot worse – a report submitted to the Stansted Public Inquiry shows a loss of domestic property value of approximately £1 billion.
